love love love these french linens from les petite emplettes. i posted about their picnic bags this spring and somehow missed these (just recently saw in cote sud magazine). they have the best styling images and i love looking at their inspiration page. (click on image to see them closer).
blow up your art with this inflatable museum-style picture frame. it puffs up to 11" x 16" with a clear pocket that holds an 8" x 10" picture. it even has tabs to hang either landscape or portrait. (i placed a picture in it that i took yesterday down on granville island for a project i'm working on).
if you're going to seattle's bumbershoot this weekend, nooks looks like an interesting place to hang out. the henry art gallery and bumbershoot are presenting this satellite exhibit at the festival featuring toronto and vancouver-based artist collective instant coffee. they will engage audience members in event-based activiities from very intimate art talks, readings and performances, to dance parties, screenings, karaoke and other hands-on activities all within a sculptural installation based on breakfast nooks, designed as concentrated spaces for social interaction. here's the program.
swedish company, form us with love introduce BIO (bendable interior objects). after two years of hard work they just launched the line with concept help from art director, peter sellberg and photographer sesse lind who made a movie with music by swedish house artist, jesper dahlbäck.

i came across the work of paul scott over the weekend at bc ceramics gallery. a resident of cumbria in rural england, he currently is a phd fellow at manchester institute for research and innovation in art and design, manchester metropolitan university, england. his work involves the digital manipulation of patterns, images and vignettes deriving from traditional blue and white ceramic wares, resulting in individual pieces that are exacting and critical. (more posts later today!)

i'm out for most of the day today so i leave you with this beautiful green glass i found at sköna hem. have a great day!
fun and twisty cards from saturate design i just found over at luxe paperie today. they come as a set of boxed notes packaged with coordinating bright envelopes.
crap detector was launched in the fall of 2006 to act as a teaching tool, information center and discussion area for kate bingaman's graphic design classes and aiga student group at mississippi state university. she also runs obsessiveconsumption.com where she once took photos of all her purchases for 28 months. she is currently drawing something she buys everyday. here's her etsy shop where one can buy her obssesive consumption zines. speaking of nice hand lettering!
i love this link i found via great green gods, (one of the blogs that were listed in the giveaway yesterday). its the zulu mama cafe chair by haldane martin, "an exploration of an indigenous zulu basket weaving technique adapted for recycled plastic. the baskets express the archetypal feminine activity of gathering, an appropriate gesture for cafe seating. the weaving work contributes to the economic empowerment of rural women". i also like their riempie series inspired by early cape dutch furniture (below).
jena just emailed me about a sale she's having at her adorable online shop, modishoppe. it's a 3 day, 15% off sale starting today! customers have to use the code "goodbyesum07" at checkout. it's word of mouth and not being advertised on the site itself, so cool to have the inside scoop! lots of goodies to be had!

i'm thrilled to be able to offer poppy readers along with one of my favorite artists, wolfie & the sneak this beautiful print, towering barnacles as a sponsorship giveaway and poppyytalk's very first ever giveaway! red orange barnacles tower above a steely gray rock somewhere in the bottom of the sea. from a run of ten, this print is on archival paper with photo quality inks, printed on a canon s9000.
renee garner, the artist has sent this image of how it will be shipped, framed in a shadow box. estimated value of this giveaway is $30!
here's how it'll work. renee suggested we ask the readers to leave a comment here on a favorite blog, or a favorite crafter/designer (this should lead to some interesting places to visit)! the giveaway is effective from this post till friday, august 31st at 9pm. i will then print out the commenters names and draw from a hat. the winner will be announced over the weekend! if you don't have a blog and wish to participate, feel welcome to by leaving your name (full name will be required to avoid duplication). one entry per person. when the winner is published, you will have to contact me via email (poppytalkblog@yahoo.ca) for contact information. thanks renee and happy commenting!

loving these bark edged side tables by toronto-based furniture designer and builder, deanne lehtinen through made design. since graduating from sheridan college, deanne has worked on private residential, commercial commissions and speculative pieces.
oorbee from om home emailed to let poppy readers know they're having a sale to make room for some new inventory. pillows usually going for $60 are priced down to $35 and from $80 to $50!
check it out! omhome.etsy.com
new fatboy point by dwell in chocolate dots. great bean bag which could be used as a table, chair, footrest . . . (available at design public). they are also making these oversized bean pillows (below).
i saw this interior set via laissezfaire blog of dutch bag designer, esther veereschild's home. such fun ideas to decorate the home. i especially love her son's room (below) with the moutain background that if you look close enough, even has a working gondola.
I'm so excited today to announce a new project I'm taking on here at Poppytalk, Poppytalk Handmade! It has been in the planning stages for a while now and I am now able to announce a Call for Submissions to my new online street market. Just like a real street/flea market, indie makers of all kinds will be able to rent a virtual table at Poppytalk Handmade for an opening date of early October/07 (just in time for the christmas season)!
The market will feature product that I personally love and would have in my own home. From the buyers point of view, it's like coming to my own personal little shop; each piece handpicked by me. I've received so much positive feedback from my readership, I thought that this was a good way to showcase artists and art that I love. My readership has grown to several thousand each day now and continues to grow, and my Etsy Picks of the Day consistently sell out. Artists will have a great opportunity to expose their work to my readership.
For more info, click here.
i absolutely love this painting, etude in gray by laura pope. she paints a fair amount of portraits using oil and a new piece, this alternative to a silhouette (below). while she stays at home with her two sons she finds any chance she can to sketch, paint, illustrate and design. some of her work is available in her etsy shop here.
