There are 6 designs and 6 colors to choose from with a wide variety of styles. You can see the designs and the promo for the package at their blog at blog.paintedtonguepress.com. Thanks Jenny!

We asked artists, designers and shop keepers 101 reasons to buy handmade this season, this is what they said. (We want to reach 101 - so please email us with your reason and we will add it to the list)! Thank you. Click here to read more...
1. Help contribute to establishing a new economic model
2. With the exception of postage cost - contribute to decrease in fossil fuel erosion (purchasing mass produced products generally come overseas - barging it all over, production costs etc, sweatshops, fair labour et al.)
3. This new wave of craftspeople are using recycled materials. this is CRUCIAL. there is too much stuff in the world already.
4. Purchase from artisans/craftspeople who ENJOY creating their wares. the object holds that positive energy and it spreads.
5. Support the artisan directly. the artisan needs more support for their vocation - more than most.
6. Support local community. thus building.
7. Buying from craftspeople is a conscious decision. people need to be more conscious of spending of where their hard-earned money is going, changing hands etc. this contributes to the bigger picture.

A fun print this afternoon from the folks at Lizard Press. Handprinted using a letterpress, using transparent ink with a touch of blue. $14.
Today's morning version of our "new affordable art series" is from Vancouver-based Cabin + Cub. The above piece is a media collage made from vintage book illustrations, paper ephemera and ink illustrations. It is original and one-of-a-kind paper-backed on wood veneer and sealed with protective coating. She also has some new notebooks we noticed too that we couldn't help but share (in a whale or singing bird version).
For our American readers: The smell of turkey and warm cranberries wafts through the air, as doorbells and phones ring with expectant guests and families. There is only everything to be thankful for, and we all collectively pause and look around at all we have - the warmth of tight friends and our families (and for us; you- our readers) - and acknowledge how fortunate we are. Happy Thanksgiving!

A little wish list of mine. From the top left (going clockwise): Rolleiflex Mini Digital Camera, Urban Outfitters; Woodgrain Notebook, Curiosity Shoppe; Monika Slippers from Toast; Fair & Square Pillow from ReForm School; Stencil 101 Bookk by Ed Roth at Urban Outfitters; Olivetti Typewriter, Urban Outfitters; A Year of Mornings, Princeton Architectural Press; Peppermint Hand Mirror, Urban Outfitters.
Beautiful black and white ceramic pieces (inspired by embroidery patterns) by Stratford, Ontario potter, Jennifer Graham. Her work was recently highlighted in the December issue of House and Home where she explains how she translates her love of textiles into her ceramics. {Photo's from jennifergraham.com}.

Another fun looking fair, this time in northern Alberta (old stomping grounds) at the The Royal Bison Craft and Art Fair, running November 29 and 30th at the Old Strathcona Famer's Market (8426 Gateway Blvd), Edmonton, Alberta. (10 - 5 pm). Look for the works from artists such as Amanda Woodward who's selling her cute puff puff ornaments along with her Twelve Days of Christmas prints.
We are overflowing with post possibilities here today - it's a busy time - need about four more people (to be honest) - hence the reason for our delay in our morning version of our new affordable art post. But nonetheless a beauty from Samantha Hahn. This one's available at Little Paper Planes.
There looks like a great market this weekend if you're in the Rochester, New York area. The Second Storie} Indie Market (filled with many of our favorite artists and designers from the northeast and beyond) opens November 29 & 30 at the Visual Studies Workshop. There will be a band, hot cider and good times to be had.

I was super excited to hear about and see these new wallpapers by Brooklyn-based designer, Julia Rothman for Hygge & West. Each roll is hand screened in Chicago, IL on coated paper (manufactured in the U.S.). The paper is extremely durable and fade resistant. (Above (top): Daydream and Nethercote).

Is this not the best photo? I stumbled across it last week on flickr, and asked the owner if she'd mind us posting it here. Taken by Martha of Sew Fab Martha, (the scene is so familiar to any of us who live in the Pacific Northwest). Taken, waiting for the ferry. If you're interesed in any of her photos, you can also visit her blog here for more info.
This weekend was the first ever One of a Kind Show here in Vancouver so I took a trip down to check it out. I was suprised not only how big it was, but also at the participation from crafters and artists south of the border. There was representation as far south as New Orleans, but the majority came from the Pacific Northwest.
Seattle-based Leif Holland from Square Room Gallery.
Beautiful ceramics from Emily Carr University of Art & Design
Various artists represented by redtruckgallery.com out of New Orleans.
Organic cotton-based baby accessories and clothing from Victoria's Dress Me Up.
Some fun things were floating about the booth shared by Regional Assembly of Text, Blim and Malaspina Printers. (All items shown from Regional Assembly of Text - apologies for the blurry photos here - it was so crowded in that little booth - it was nearly impossible to take any photos). Note: Malaspina Printers had some beautiful prints and to be honest I felt strange to take pictures there - but they are having a Winter Print Festival this coming Thursday, Nov. 27th from 6 - 8pm. They are located on Granville Island at 1555 Duranleau Street. malaspinaprintmakers.com.
And finally our purchases, a "Matters of Importance" chalkboard from Regional Assembly of Text and a Typewriter pillow" from Track and Field designs.
