If you saw ReadyMade Magazine for Feb/March 2010 you probably were admiring (like us) this fun trailer-turned hotel idea by hotelier, Liz Lambert and her management company Bunkhouse called El Cosmico. El Cosmico, recently opened in the fall of 2009, and is located on an 18 acre plot of land in Marfa, Texas where they are building something entirely new to the hospitality industry. With 20-30 restored & renovated vintage trailers, rammed earth community buildings, a large central pool, wood-fired hot-tubs, art shacks and an amphitheatre; all created to foster artistic and intellectual exchange. I was only able to visit their website over the weekend and was oogling over many of their pictures there which I thought would be fun to share. Having a fondness for vintage holiday trailers, these images were right down my alley especially how they've decorated the interior of the one shown in ReadyMade (a 1956 The Imperial Mansion). Uncluttered, with beautifully varnished original wood, unique light fixtures, vintage table & chairs and lovely tex-mex style rugs and blankets in reds, oranges and pinks; looks like the perfect place to sit down and write your first novelette. They also have Yurt and Teepee accommodations along with amenities such as a hammock grove, bath house, kitchen, bar-b-ques and wireless internet. Click here to read more.

I really love the wooden interior in the 4th photo! And especially how there are two types of wood, a new and an old. I wouldn't think it could look good, but this photo really pulls it off (although the carpet needs to go!). Thanks for the inspiration!
totally awesome!! fabulous idea!
The idea of just settling down in one of these trailers makes me giddy ~ what an adventure it would be!
better early, than never! i love it! :)
we were in marfa twice this year and saw el cosmico, wanted to stay, but they weren't open yet... kept checking the website, but no updates that they were open... happy to hear they're open for business and looking forward to experiencing it. marfa is a really, really odd, amazing place.
that teepee is awesome!
Not *totally* new -- The Shady Dell in Bisbee, AZ has been around for a long time and is also awesome! http://www.theshadydell.com/
love that idea!!
Kim - I think they mean "new" in terms of it becoming a place for artists to meet, create and exchange ideas.
gorgeous! i would seriously love to live in that trailer.
I like the way they are decorated
Wow! What gorgeous photos! The colours are so vibrant and alive!
Wish I could stay in one of these places!
I love the idea of vintage trailers! What a neat idea. The photos are so wonderful! Thank you for sharing. (I love your site!) :)
Just cool. I love them all!
i came here from my google reader to same the same thing about the shady dell. me and my sweetie have successfully managed to work it into our summer tours annually for a couple of years now.
here is a collection of photos from our visits (but a whole bunch of better photographers have also documented the place on flickr).
no disrespect to this lovely place in marfa, the shady dell just occupies a healthy part of my heart.
I absolutely love this. Can't wait to have an excuse to visit!
My fiancee and I are staying here for a couple of days during our honeymoon. We're doing a Texas road trip (we're from Toronto) and are hitting up two of Liz Lambert's other hotels - the Havana in San Antonio and the San Jose in Austin. We can't wait!
