Ruth Shively

Paris, oil and graphite on canvas

If I could, I'd cover an entire wall in my home with Ruth Shively's paintings. I really would. Because I'm completely taken with the way this Portland, Oregon based painter works with color, head over heels in love with her portraits, her figures in landscapes. According to her bio, she's always been fascinated with 'people and the stories their faces tell'. And this fascination, it shows. There's a narrative in her portraiture, a story line in the strokes. It leaves me wanting more.

I totally know that vintage store! Love their lamps. Thanks for the rundown. Ms Shively makes beautiful art :-) Our current fave artist is one Steven Mathews. A little graphic novel-ish in style but really engaging stuff.

Her style is really captivating = modern and nostalgic at the same time - so simple yet leaving one wondering what is the story behind the painted image. Thanks for the inspiration and art to share with fellow art lovers.

Fantastic work. There's a bit of an Edward Hopper feel to some of them. Off to check out her Etsy shop.
