In Depth With the Artist: Fantasy Floorplans

Brandi of Fantasy Floorplans draws/drafts (by hand) fake floorplans of TV's most popular (and maybe not so popular) shows. Inspired by a book she was given, she started drawing floorplans at about the age of seven. Using old school drafting tools to produce her drawings such as a drafting table, parallel bars, vellum and triangles, Brandi takes a few liberties in the designs but has done her very best to preserve the most televised parts of these TV homes and businesses.  Visit her at our Mad March market here or online here.

What a creative project! I'm pretty visual so it's neat to look at this type of representation of something we see all of the time in a different way :)
Cheers~

I love hand drawn floor plans. Maybe it's because i remember spending hours over a drafting table while i was in design school, i can truly appreciate.

Hmmmm. Maybe she got her inspiration from Mark Bennet, an artist that has been doing this sort of thing for 20 years. http://www.gregkucera.com/bennett.htm

I've liked Bennet's work for years, but these look a LOT higher quality to me - and more accurate. Also nice to see more recent shows available

As someone who would obsess over the houses in tv shows as a child, this is so cool. I would always be trying to map them out in my mind and get a sense of the overall space. The Brady Bunch was a particular favorite as was Bewitched.

These are absolutely way too close for comfort to Mark Bennett's original works, which I have seen up close and personal, and are of much higher artistic integrity and quality than these.

It's strange how close her choice in floorplans are to the ones that he published in his book, published 10 years ago. http://www.amazon.com/TV-Sets-Fantasy-Blueprints-Classic/dp/1579121071/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1305911064&sr=8-1

It's sad that no one has their own ideas anymore.

Mark Bennett doesn’t own the idea of drawing floorplans of tv homes.

It’s like saying Monet is the only one who can paint in the impressionistic style or only one person is allowed to draw a still life and the second is infringing on the still life technique.

The artistic integrity of her drawings speak for themselves. Would this blog have done a story about someone without talent??
