Kitchens on the Brain

It's sort of like when you own a volkswagen, all of a sudden you notice all these volkswagens, so as we continue on our kitchen search, all's I notice mostly these days are kitchens. So please bear with me dear internets. These were all in the same issue (from April's issue of House and Home). My wishlist at the moment:

1. I love darker hardware against lighter painted wood. So maybe a blackish iron drawer pull (like above only black), I love black faucets too, but I also love white (so confused).
2. I like white and grey cabinetry (at the moment). With different colours on the lower than the uppers or shelves.
3. I would like an apron sink, but they just seem scary heavy. But I do like them.
4. I love the stoves where all the knobs are on the bottom.
5. Tiles all the way to the ceiling.
6. A big table in the middle of a kitchen, like my grandma had (they are a great place to gather and chat while you cook). But we don't have the room and will probably have a nook.
7. Open shelving with chunky brackets

What do you like in a kitchen? I need suggestions/opinions.

there is definitely a lot of kitchen talk going on right now, isn't there? there is nothing like having a fantastic kitchen! I'm with you, love the dark pull handles like the one in the picture and an apron sink, oh swoon, I hope to have one one day! I love harvest tables, just love them...I was so happy to get one last year, it sits 6, but someday I'd love to have one that sits 10, they are gorgeous! I think my dream kitchen would be very close to the one from the movie Somethings Gotta Give. Okay, must stop now before I gab on forever! Cheers

I think the list you are creating is just wonderful. I am just finishing up my kitchen remodel (1 week left!!), and it is important to have a clear picture of your vision before you are faced with truly making those decisions. Then when you are faced with the reality (i.e. $$), you can decide what you must have and what you can live without! Thanks for sharing!

Knobs4Less.com is great. I ordered long bronze pulls that double as towel holders for cheaper than I could special order from home depot. http://www.knobs4less.com/Liberty-Hardware-Artesia-Pull-in-Oil/libp16574cob3c.html

I love the subway tiles as a backsplash and the glass tiles too. I painted our cabinets a light gray when we moved in and it looks great. We are currently putting in new flooring. I found a beautiful 12 x 24 rectified tile that I love. I can't wait till it's done. Especially since my fridge is sitting in my living room while it is being done. Kitchens can be such an undertaking to redo.

Having just gone through it, I can say that remodeling a kitchen is both stressful and exhausting, but oh so rewarding! All of your choices of finishes are wonderful. Go bold with your hardware and faucet...these are things you can easily update when/if you get tired of the contrast. Keep long-term finishes, like your cabs and counters a bit more neutral and conventional to give you the room to shake things up in years to come. Have fun!

Go for a nice DEEP sink if you can. It's what I have and I love it - you can pretend the dirty dishes aren't there from across the room, and also wash the deepest stockpot you have with ease. Our next project is a tile backsplash behind our stovetop area and there are so many choices for colors and designs that I'm overwhelmed. I need to start keeping an idea book like you. Good luck with your kitchen!

Thank you all for your heaps of advice! I know it's going to be a big job, and probably pretty stressful when we figure it all out.
