New Art Show: Growing a Sense of Direction by Amy Rice

I've Been Everywhere

Amy Rice's second show this month, Growing a Sense of Direction takes place at the View Art Gallery in Victoria, BC (Canada) October 7th - 29th, 2011.  Read her artist's statement about the show.
I have been exploring themes of direction and navigation in my art (in both the literal and figurative sense) ever since I first picked up my first crayon.  Every piece in this body of work incorporates into it an antique map, globe, atlas page or other directional guide.  I have been setting a course and mapping out a plan. I use the tools at my disposal and yet sometimes I still get lost. I am working at paying better attention and growing the tiny bit of inherent direction I have. -Amy Rice 2011
Amy's work will be available through View Art Gallery and more can be viewed after the jump and on her flickr here.  Psssst!  The top painting titled, "I've Been Everywhere, Man" can be used as a free desktop, courtesy of Amy.  Just click here and save as your desktop image!  Sweet!
