Stepping Stones: Patios + Pathways

Guest post by Lily Ellis of Birch + Bird.

After that long stretch of sunshine we had, it's been hard to make the switch from flip flops to rubber boots once again! But we did make a family trip to our local wholesale nursery on Monday, despite the torrential rain...good thing they had plenty of umbrellas on hand! Living on the West Coast, I'm a big fan of cedar decking and warm wood tones but there is much to be said for adding concrete and stone into the mix. Brick, natural stone, pavers and even gravel are all practical solutions for gardens of all styles, from traditional to modern....

I love the look of herbs and succulents growing between "grout" lines and think some rock-loving greenery softens hard edges and looks welcoming for bare feet on hot summer days! Using different types of brick and stone can add plenty of texture and interest to outdoor spaces...which do you prefer?
